What You Will Be Doing
Working in the Finance Section, the Accountant 5 is responsible for providing analysis and recommendations to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the following: coordinating the annual actuarial valuation reports of each of the Division of Retirement and Benefits (Division) administered retirement systems; reviewing changes to actuarial assumptions and methodology; determining compliance with governmental accounting standards; communicating with participating employers regarding compliance with applicable federal and state government and accounting standards; working on information requests from the Alaska Retirement Management Board (ARM Board); responding to ARM Board requests; and developing compliance processes and procedures with and for Division payroll processing staff.
This position directs the daily administration of the Division`s internal audit section. This position will assist in the development of audit programs, audit processes, and audit procedures for the internal audit section for use in employer PERS, TRS, SBS, and Deferred Compensation audits, as well as develop letters to employers for reporting audit deficiencies, if any, and develop templates for the preliminary and final audit reports. The internal audit section has 2 staff and meet bi-weekly to discuss all phases of audits, findings, resolutions, and will need to work with the Division retirement counselors on issues.
This position is responsible for ensuring pension plan compliance with Internal Revenue Code, federal and state laws, as well as professional accounting and financial reporting standards.

The Working Environment You Can Expect
This position is currently based at 400 Willoughby, across the street from the State Office Building in beautiful downtown Juneau. Typical office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm. In-state hybrid telework opportunities may be available on the approval of the supervisor.
