Terms of Service

Terms of Service

Last updated: 2025-07-28

When we say “Company”, “we”, “our”, or “us” in this document, we are referring to Remotly.
When we say “Services”, we mean any product or website created and maintained by Remotly. That includes the Remotly job board (in all versions) whether delivered via web browser, mobile application, or any other format.
When we say “you” or “your”, we are referring to the people or organizations that use one or more of our Services (including both job seekers and job posters).

We may update these Terms of Service in the future. Typically, changes will clarify these terms or link to expanded related policies for transparency. When you use our Services, now or in the future, you are agreeing to the latest Terms of Service. That’s true for any of our existing and future products, and for all features that we add over time. If we don’t exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Terms at a given time, it does not mean we waive that right or provision. Please note that these terms include a limitation of liability clause.

If you violate any of the terms, we may terminate your account or access to the Services.

Account Terms

  1. Account Security: You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account login credentials. Remotly cannot and will not be liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to safeguard your account.
  2. Lawful Use: You may not use the Services for any unlawful purposes. We reserve the right to remove any content that is illegal or that we deem inappropriate. All job postings or other content you submit must be truthful and comply with applicable laws (including, for example, employment, labor, and non-discrimination laws in relevant jurisdictions). We may remove any job listing or content that violates these Terms or legal requirements.
  3. Responsibility for Content: You are responsible for all content posted and all actions that occur under your account. This includes content posted by others who have access to your account or who operate under your account with your permission. If you post a job listing or other user-generated content, you are solely responsible for its accuracy, legality, and appropriateness. Remotly is a neutral platform and does not pre-screen or verify user-provided job listings; you should ensure your postings are genuine and comply with all applicable laws.
  4. No Malicious or Automated Registration: You must be a human to open an account. Accounts registered by bots or other automated methods are not allowed. We also prohibit any fraudulent, deceptive, or abusive conduct on our Services.
  5. Job Posting Eligibility: If you are posting a job, you must be authorized to represent the employer or organization offering the job. All job listings must represent real, current job opportunities. You warrant that your job post is legal, legitimate, truthful, and does not violate any third-party rights or laws. We may refuse or remove job posts that, in our sole discretion, violate these Terms (for example, postings that are fraudulent, misleading, offensive, or in breach of labor laws).
  6. Platform Use at Your Own Risk: Remotly is only a platform connecting job posters and job seekers. We are not an employer, hiring agent, or representative in any hiring process. Any dealings, communications, or transactions between a job seeker and a job poster are solely between those parties. You agree that any dispute or claim arising from interactions with another user (for example, between an applicant and an employer) will be resolved between you and that party, and you release Remotly from any liability arising from such disputes.

Payment, Refunds, and Price Changes

  1. Free Services: If you are using a free version of our Services (for example, a free job listing), it is truly free. We will not ask for your credit card just for using the free Service, and we do not sell your data in order to finance the Service.
  2. Taxes: All fees for any paid Services (such as any future premium listings or features) are exclusive of taxes, levies, or duties imposed by taxing authorities. You are responsible for paying any applicable taxes or duties for your use of the Services, in accordance with relevant laws.
  3. Refunds: We aim for fairness in all transactions. If you pay for a Service and there is an issue, we process refunds case-by-case in a fair manner consistent with consumer protection laws. (For example, if a paid job listing is taken down due to our error, we would reasonably refund or credit the posting fee.) Any specific refund policies for a given Service will be communicated at the time of purchase.
  4. Price Changes: Prices of any paid Services are subject to change upon notice. Such notice may be provided by an announcement on our website or via email. We will not retroactively change fees for services already purchased, but new fees may apply to renewals or new purchases after the notice period.

Security and Privacy

  1. “As-Is” Service: Your use of the Services is at your sole risk. We provide the Services on an “as is” and “as available” basis without any warranty that the Services will be uninterrupted or error-free. We do not offer any service-level guarantee.
  2. Fair Use Limitations: We reserve the right to temporarily disable or throttle your account if your usage significantly exceeds the average usage of other customers and threatens the stability or security of the Services. This step would typically only be taken in extreme scenarios (for example, if your use is causing technical strain on the platform). We will attempt to contact you in such cases.
  3. Data Security Measures: We take extensive measures to protect and secure your data. This includes regular backups, redundancy in our systems, and encryption of data in transit. We enforce HTTPS/SSL encryption for data transmission over the public Internet. (In rare edge cases, certain data might travel unencrypted through our internal network, but we endeavor to encrypt all sensitive transmissions.) Stored passwords are hashed or encrypted. We also encourage you to use a strong, unique password for Remotly and to keep it confidential.
  4. Trust and Data Processing: When you use our Services, you entrust us with your data and we take that trust seriously. You agree that Remotly may process your data for the purpose of providing the Services and as described in our Privacy Policy. Our team members may access your data only in limited scenarios, for example:
    • Support: If you contact us for support, we might access relevant account data with your permission to help resolve your issue. We will ask for your consent before accessing your account or data directly for troubleshooting.
    • Error Resolution: On rare occasions, an error might occur that stops an automated process (for example, a job listing failing to publish correctly). We receive automatic alerts for serious errors. When possible, we fix such issues without accessing any personal data. In the rare cases where manual intervention is required, we will access the minimum data necessary to fix the problem and will address the root cause to prevent recurrence.
    • Security & Abuse Prevention: To protect Remotly and our users, we monitor logs and metadata (e.g. IP access logs, usage patterns) to detect security issues or abuse. If we suspect abuse (such as spam listings or unauthorized access attempts), we may inspect relevant account data as part of our investigation. Similarly, if we receive an abuse report, we may access content in the account alleged to be involved, but only as needed to investigate and resolve the issue.
    • Legal Compliance: To the extent required by applicable law, we may access, preserve, or disclose information. (See “Legal Compliance” below for more details on how we handle government requests.)
  5. Third-Party Providers: We use third-party vendors and hosting partners to provide the necessary hardware, software, networking, storage, and related technology required to run the Services. In particular, the Remotly platform is built on and powered by Job Boardly, a third-party service provider based in the United States, which hosts our application and data. We also utilize reputable third parties for ancillary services (for example, payment processing, email delivery, analytics, and our Substack-hosted blog – see Privacy Policy for more details). These providers are vetted for their security practices and are bound by agreements to protect user data.
  6. Legal Compliance and Data Disclosure: We will only preserve or share customer data when legally compelled to do so, and we will limit such disclosure to the extent necessary. Because our data infrastructure is located in the United States (through our partnership with Job Boardly), any law enforcement request for user data generally must follow applicable U.S. laws: for example, a U.S. government authority must provide a valid, binding order (such as a warrant, subpoena, or court order under the Stored Communications Act) before we would be compelled to release customer content. If a non-U.S. government (outside of Singapore or the U.S.) approaches us or our hosting partner for assistance, our default stance is to refuse direct cooperation unless the request is validated through the appropriate U.S. legal channels (such as an established mutual legal assistance treaty procedure). As a Singapore-based company, we will also comply with Singaporean legal requirements; thus, if Singapore authorities lawfully require data (for instance, via court order under the PDPA or other legislation), we will adhere to those obligations. In all cases, we aim to inform you of any third-party legal demands for your data unless we are legally prohibited from doing so. We do not provide any government with “backdoor” or direct access to user data. Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), Remotly’s handling of personal data from our users is intended to classify Remotly as a “service provider” rather than a “business” or “third party.” This means we process any personal data you share with us only to provide the Services for which you signed up, and as described in these Terms, our Privacy Policy, and other related policies. We do not sell your personal information or use it for any purpose outside the scope of operating and improving our Services unless we obtain your explicit consent. By using Remotly, you agree that you (if applicable, e.g. as a business client) will comply with your own obligations under CCPA and will not cause us to engage in any activity that would violate CCPA.

Copyright and Content Ownership

  1. Your Content, Your Rights: We claim no intellectual property rights over the material you provide through the Services. Content you submit (such as job descriptions, company logos, or other materials) remains yours. You are granting us a license to use, display, and distribute that content as needed to operate the Service (for example, to display your job listing on our site). That license ends when you remove or delete your content from our Service, except to the extent it may persist in backup archives (which will eventually be purged) or as required for legal compliance.
  2. Copyright Compliance: All content posted on the Services must comply with U.S. copyright law and other applicable intellectual property laws. Do not use Remotly to share content that you do not have the rights to use. If we receive a valid Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) takedown notice or similar request regarding content you’ve posted, we will take appropriate action (including removing or disabling access to the content) and notify the affected user as appropriate. Repeated infringement may result in account termination.
  3. Content Moderation: We do not pre-screen user content, but we reserve the right (though not the obligation) to refuse or remove any content that is available via the Service at our sole discretion. This means that while we generally rely on users to post appropriate content, Remotly staff may remove content (such as a job post or comment) that we find violates these Terms or is otherwise objectionable, without prior notice.
  4. Remotly’s Proprietary Materials: The Remotly name, logo, and the overall look-and-feel of the Services (including site design, logos, and graphics) are copyright © 2025 Remotly. All rights reserved. You may not duplicate, copy, or reuse any portion of our HTML/CSS, Javascript, or visual design elements without express written permission. If you wish to use Remotly branding or logos for any promotional or press purposes, you must obtain written permission from us. (Send such requests to our support/contact email.) We reserve the right to revoke any such permission at any time if our trademarks or content are misused or if you violate these Terms.
  5. No False Association: You must not modify another website so as to falsely imply that it is associated with Remotly or our Services. For example, you should not use our logo on your site in a way that suggests a partnership or endorsement without authorization, and you shouldn’t frame our website within another site in a misleading manner.
  6. Prohibited Content: You agree not to upload or post any content that is unlawful, threatening, harassing, defamatory, obscene, or otherwise objectionable. This includes content that harasses or discriminates against others, or content that contains viruses or malicious code. We expect all users to be professional and respectful, especially given that Remotly is a career-related platform. Content that violates these standards may be removed, and violators may have their accounts suspended or terminated.
  7. User Content Liability: We are not liable for any user-generated content (such as job listings, comments, or messages) on our platform. While we may monitor and remove problematic content, the poster of content (e.g., the employer who posted a job) is solely responsible for that content. Remotly does not guarantee the accuracy, quality, or legality of any jobs or content posted by third parties. Users should exercise appropriate caution and due diligence when relying on or responding to any content on the platform.

Features and Bugs

We design our Services with care, based on our own experience and on feedback from users. However, no online service is perfect for everyone. We do not guarantee that our Services will meet your specific requirements, expectations, or needs in every case. For example, while we strive for high uptime and fast page loads, we do not promise that a job seeker will get a job or an employer will get a hire through our platform, or that every feature will function uninterrupted.

We test our features extensively before releasing them. Nonetheless, software can have bugs. We track bugs reported to us and prioritize fixes (especially for security or privacy-related bugs). Not all reported bugs will be resolved immediately, and we do not guarantee the Services are completely error-free. By using Remotly, you understand that and accept that occasional technical glitches or issues may occur, but we will do our best to address significant issues in a timely manner. If you encounter a bug, we encourage you to report it to us so we can investigate.

Service Adaptations and Integrations

Our Services may integrate with or allow interactions with third-party services. For example, a third-party might create an integration or plugin that works with Remotly (perhaps to share our job listings on another platform, etc.). We are not responsible for third-party services or integrations that are not developed by Remotly. Use of any third-party integration is at your own risk. We don’t warrant or support products or services provided by others, even if our Service interoperates with them.

If you grant a third-party service access to your Remotly account (for example, by using an OAuth integration if we enable that in the future), you do so at your discretion. Be mindful of the permissions you grant to third parties. We cannot be held accountable for data mishandling by services that you authorize to connect with Remotly. (However, if you encounter a security issue stemming from a third-party integration, please inform us, while we may not be responsible, we still might take steps like disabling the integration’s connection to protect users.)

Liability

Limitation of Liability: To put all the various liability mentions in one place, you expressly understand and agree that Remotly (the Company) shall not be liable to you or any third party for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive, or exemplary damages. This includes, without limitation, damages for lost profits, goodwill, data loss, or other intangible losses (even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages), arising from: (i) your use of or inability to use the Services; (ii) the cost of procuring substitute goods or services resulting from any goods, data, information, or services obtained or messages received or transactions entered into through the Services; (iii) unauthorized access to or alteration of your transmissions or data; (iv) statements, content, or conduct of any third party on the Service (including the content of job listings or the behavior of employers or job seekers); or (v) any other matter relating to these Terms of Service or the Services, whether based on contract, tort (including negligence), or any other legal theory.

In particular, Remotly is not liable for the interactions between job seekers and job posters. We do not oversee hiring decisions or communications off our platform, and we cannot guarantee the outcome or legitimacy of any job opportunity. Any dispute you have with another user (for example, an employment dispute) is between you and that user, and by using Remotly, you agree to release us from any claims or damages arising out of such disputes. If you believe another user is violating these Terms or acting unlawfully, you may notify us, and we will review and take action at our discretion, but we are not obligated to become involved in user-to-user disputes.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation/exclusion of liability for certain types of damages. In such jurisdictions, our liability will be limited to the extent permitted by law.

Governing Law: These Terms of Service shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Singapore, without regard to its conflict of law principles. However, we comply with consumer protection and data privacy laws applicable to us in other jurisdictions as required (see Privacy Policy for international data practices). By using the Services, you consent that any legal action or proceedings arising from or related to these Terms shall be brought in the courts of Singapore, and you hereby agree to submit to the jurisdiction of such courts. If you are accessing the Service from outside Singapore, you do so on your own initiative and are responsible for compliance with local laws, if and to the extent local laws are applicable.

Severability: If any provision of these Terms is held by a court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid or unenforceable, then that provision will be modified to reflect the parties’ intention (or eliminated if necessary) to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions of these Terms will remain in full effect.

No Waiver: Our failure to enforce any part of these Terms is not a waiver of our right to later enforce that or any other part of the Terms. You are never exempt from complying with the Terms.

If you have any questions about these Terms of Service, please contact our support team (see the Contact page on our website). We value open communication and will do our best to address your concerns.
