Controller / Senior Accountant (Healthcare – Dialysis Services)

We are a rapidly growing dialysis services organization focused on delivering high-quality, patient-centered care across multiple states. With expanding operations and multiple entities under management, we are seeking a highly organized and experienced Controller / Senior Accountant to help build and maintain strong financial infrastructure as we scale.
Position Overview
The Controller / Senior Accountant will oversee day-to-day financial operations across six entities with combined annual collections exceeding $6M. This role is responsible for full-cycle accounting, bill pay, payroll oversight, and financial reporting, while ensuring compliance with multi-state regulations.
This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who thrives in a growth environment and is comfortable owning both strategic financial reporting and transactional accounting processes.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Management
- Manage full-cycle accounting for six related entities
- Maintain accurate general ledgers using accrual-based accounting
- Prepare and analyze monthly Profit & Loss (P&L) statements and Balance Sheets
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
- Ensure consistency across entities with shared vendors and cost structures
Accounts Payable (AP) & Bill Pay
- Oversee all bill pay processes across entities
- Maintain vendor relationships and ensure timely payments
- Monitor expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities
Accounts Receivable (AR)
- Provide weekly AR reporting to CEO
- Track collections and aging reports
- Work closely with operations to improve revenue cycle efficiency
Payroll & Contractor Management
- Process payroll for ~10 full-time employees using Gusto
- Manage payments for ~10 independent contractors
- Ensure payroll tax compliance across multiple states
Tax & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with multi-state tax regulations
- Coordinate with external CPAs for tax filings and audits
- Maintain proper documentation and internal controls
Reporting & Leadership
- Provide weekly AP and AR updates to CEO
- Assist in developing financial dashboards and KPIs
- Support strategic decision-making with financial insights
- Help build scalable accounting processes as the company grows
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5+ years of accounting experience (Controller or Senior Accountant level preferred)
- Strong experience with accrual-based accounting, P&L, and balance sheets
- Experience managing multiple entities simultaneously
- Payroll experience (preferably with Gusto or similar platform)
- Experience with multi-state tax compliance
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment
Preferred:
- Prior experience in healthcare (dialysis, home health, or medical services strongly preferred)
- Experience in high-growth or multi-entity organizations
- CPA or CPA-track candidate
