As an Engineering Manager (m/f/d) at Syde, a substantial part of your job will be ensuring engineers receive support, feedback, and guidance in their professional development and career progression.Conduct regular check-ins, 1:1 meetings, and feedback/performance reviews with your direct reports.
Gather and provide professional feedback to your direct reports from their respective project teams, including project managers and delivery leads.
Offer mentorship first-hand or help find support elsewhere inside or outside the company.
Be the primary point of contact for your direct reports regarding handling planned and unplanned time off, personal updates, but also any needs or difficulties they may be facing.
Develop a thorough knowledge of Syde's engineering career ladder and assist your direct reports in setting and achieving progression goals, helping them identify growth and skill development opportunities.
Regularly review allocations for your direct reports, discussing fit for upcoming projects, skills, and other allocation considerations.
Represent your direct reports, as well as their project teams, in meta-level discussions about team structure, well-being, and professional development.
Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to ensure the engineering discipline remains innovative and competitive.
Provide continuous technical expertise and guidance to your direct reports and other engineers.
Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation, encouraging the adoption of best practices across the Engineering discipline.
Contribute to the setting of engineering standards and the maintenance of documentation, tools, and templates.
Facilitate clear and effective horizontal and vertical communication within the engineering discipline, and between engineering and other relevant departments within the company.
Participate in project retrospectives and other relevant ceremonies of your direct reports.
Help ensure a cohesive approach to solution design and development, contributing to the development of the overall engineering strategy, and aligning engineering activities with overall business goals.
Participate in the hiring process for Engineering Managers and other engineering roles.
At least two years of experience managing engineers in an international, multicultural context.
Technical background, with past experience of at least five years in software/web engineering, also in technical leadership roles.
Experience in mentoring and coaching other engineers.
Experience with gathering and delivering constructive feedback.
Ability to create professional development plans aligning individual and company goals.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Growth-oriented, problem-solving, and conflict-navigating skills.
Availability to work in European timezones (UTC-1 to UTC+3), and occasionally participate in meetings in the LATAM timezone (UTC-7 to UTC-3).
Experience working in a 100% remote working environment.
Hands-on experience with a technology stack close to ours (WordPress, PHP, JS, React, CMS).
Technical leadership experience in an international, multicultural agency context.
Experience with engineering hiring interviews and assessments.
Experience with Slack, Jira, Confluence, Personio, Leapsome, or Runn.
