ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  • Underwriting, credit analysis, approving or denying of prospective members and renewals within credit union policy and procedures ensuring accuracy and completeness. Analyze historical financial statements, projections, credit reports, ratios, appraisals, title commitments, flood certifications, insurance, and loan documentation to determine risks and mitigates.
  • Outline the background of the Borrower and conduct industry and competitive analysis. Utilize models to evaluate the strength of borrower’s cash flow and its ability to provide for primary, secondary, and tertiary sources of repayment, as well as models to assess refinance risk.
  • For transactions involving individual or corporate guarantors, underwrite their financial strength and perform a global cash flow analysis when appropriate, including the analysis of personal financial statements and personal/corporate tax returns.
  • Maintain a strong working relationship with loan officers and processors.   Advise loan originators on approvals/denials. Possess good communication skills. Rework loans as needed with lenders. Maintain all updates on underwriting software. Ensure compliance with all policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Complete analysis related to depository relationships. Understand the credit union's policy in regard to ACH, RDC and other non-lending transactions. Work closely with deposit teams and Risk Management in formulating and implementing guidelines in managing risks related to cash management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE

  • Three years to five years of similar or related experience.
  • A bachelor’s degree or a two year degree with a completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school and completion of a specialized and extensive in-house training or apprenticeship program.

 OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Recent business underwriting experience.
  • Must be able to type, use PC and general office equipment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills with a high degree of attention to detail.
  • Time management and organizational skills to effectively prioritize and maintain satisfactory turn times. Detail oriented.
  • A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact.
  • Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is usually of a personal or sensitive nature.
  • Work may involve motivating, influencing or training others.
  • Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.

  • To have thorough knowledge and ensure compliance with policy and procedures of Y-12 Federal Credit Union and required regulatory agencies.
  • Find ways to say yes to more loans. Cross-sell additional credit union products and services.
  • Challenge the status quo and make it easier to do business with us. Assist the credit union in going paperless.
  • Help department meet credit union goals and complete strategic objectives.
  • Keep communication open and build trust with all staff.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and sit. This position requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move items over 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
