Our client, a growing Dallas area law firm, is looking to hire an experienced Patent Prosecution Paralegal to join their team on a fully remote basis. The Paralegal performs a variety of often complex and demanding paralegal duties to assist attorneys and clients. The Paralegal will also maintain positive contact with supervisors and co-workers and observe confidentiality of client matters, as well as organize and maintain hard and electronic copies of documents.

Responsibilities 

1. Follows the ethical requirements as set forth by the Texas Bar Association Rules of Professional Conduct, USPTO Rules of Professional Conduct, and comply with all requirements of the firm’s professional liability insurer

2. Prepares, proofreads, and edits draft patent documents

3. Finalizes patent documents for signature and electronic filing; handles electronic filing

4. Handles third party requests for formal drawings, foreign licensing (as applicable), and certified copies from the USPTO

5. Responsible for client communications, including reporting and follow-up communications

6. Audits and manages patent portfolios to ensure patent applications are in compliance through the patent prosecution process

7. Conducts research related to and drafts responses to office actions

8. Monitors client dockets and apprises attorney regarding upcoming deadlines; works closely with docketing department to ensure dockets are current and accurate

9. Prepares IDS and other documents related to patent prosecution

10. Other duties as required to accomplish the patent prosecution process

11. Maintains regular attendance and punctuality

12. Work may require more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position; may require irregular hours

Requirements 

1. Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and to complete them under time constraints

2. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for up to 80% of the work time when evaluating legal matters

3. Ability to proofread typed material for contextual, grammatical, typographical or spelling errors

4. Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate and follow instructions effectively and provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact

5. Ability to withstand a high level of mental effort and strain while organizing and maintaining multiple or complex tasks

6. Ability to operate office equipment, including computer (for extended periods)

7. Ability to establish and maintain docketing systems; utilizes computer and manual master calendar system

8. Ability to occasionally work more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position; may require irregular hours.

9. Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience

10. Three or more years’ of solid patent prosecution experience is required
