Job Summary

Responsible for overseeing the coding and documentation processes essential for accurate and compliant medical billing. Ensures that coding practices align with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and payer guidelines.

Essential Functions:
-Develop and implement coding strategies to ensure accurate, compliant, and timely coding of medical services and procedures.
-Stay up to date with changes in coding guidelines and regulations to maintain compliance.
-Supervise and provide guidance to the coding team, including coders, auditors, and documentation specialists.
-Set performance objectives, conduct regular evaluations, and foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
-Establish and maintain coding quality assurance programs to assess coding accuracy and consistency.
-Provide feedback and conduct training to improve coding proficiency.
-Collaborate with healthcare providers, clinical documentation specialists, and physicians to enhance the quality of medical documentation, ensuring it supports appropriate coding and billing.
-Conduct regular coding audits to identify potential issues, trends, and areas for improvement.
-Develop action plans based on audit findings to address any deficiencies.
-Ensure that coding practices adhere to relevant healthcare regulations, including ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and other coding guidelines.


 

Qualifications

Education
Bachelor's Degree Health Information Management required

Licenses and Credentials

Experience
Experience in healthcare coding, with a proven track record of leadership and team management 8-10+ years required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and other coding systems, as well as current coding guidelines and regulations.
- Familiarity with coding software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret coding data and trends to drive decision-making.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with various stakeholders.
- Proven ability to lead and inspire a team to achieve coding accuracy and performance targets.
- In-depth understanding of healthcare compliance and risk management principles.
