Job Summary
Signature Rail is a software business unit within the Modaxo family of global businesses, specialising in timetable planning solutions in the rail industry. We are currently looking for an ambitious standalone Accountant to join our Finance team in a key long-term role supporting the growth and success of the business.
In this hands-on role, you will provide commercial finance support to one of our business units, operating across the UK, and will grow into full ownership of its reporting, control and statutory responsibilities.
You will report directly to the General Manager, with a functional reporting line to the Group Finance Director and the opportunity for close collaboration with the wider Modaxo Finance community. The role holder will be part of the senior leadership team and will be expected to influence key strategic financial decisions.
This is predominantly a remote position, with travel to our York office as required by business needs, along with occasional international travel to attend events.
Job Description
Key responsibilities
Strategic management & business support
- Act as a financial business partner to the General Manager and the leadership team, helping develop business plans, priorities and forecasts.
- Support the sales team on tender and bid submissions through scenario planning, P&L and key KPIs, and complete £1m checklists for large bids.
- Lead the quarterly budgeting and forecasting process, incorporating sales pipeline analysis and cost assessments to develop accurate forecasts and identify key performance improvement opportunities.
- Prepare and review financial models and proposals on an ad hoc basis to support commercial decision-making.
Financial management & reporting
- Delivery of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and annual consolidated reporting, ensuring compliance with internal and external requirements under both local GAAP and IFRS.
- Reconcile, maintain and validate balance sheet accounts.
- Manage the accuracy of revenue recognition in compliance with IFRS 15, including high-quality project accounting and controlling.
- Calculate the company bonus and incentive schemes and process related payments.
- Manage and support internal and external audits and ensure statutory filings are completed as required.
Governance, systems & risk
- Ensure key accounting processes and internal controls are well documented and adhered to.
- Optimise the use of financial systems and resources, including exploring new AI-based solutions.
- Act as a local project champion for the implementation of new finance systems and processes, serving as the business super-user on key modules.
- Stay current with financial trends and regulations, ensuring compliance across the finance function.
Person specification
Essential
- A continuous learning mindset - a genuine enthusiasm to grow and develop in the role.
- Fully qualified (CIMA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent).
- Strong organisational abilities, deadline focus, commercial acumen and stakeholder management skills.
- Good working knowledge of Excel (pivot tables, look-up functions and similar) with the appetite to develop further.
- A solid grounding in accounting principles, strong analytical skills and a good level of numeracy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work at pace and adapt to change.
Desirable (not essential)
- Experience with NetSuite.
- Exposure to IFRS 15 revenue recognition or a multi-currency reporting environment.
- Experience of working with AI toolkits.
