This role provides the opportunity to accelerate climate action in cities by transforming ambitious mitigation plans into financeable, investment-ready projects. You will support cities in overcoming financial and institutional barriers, structuring blended finance solutions, and mobilizing capital for real-world implementation. Working closely with finance partners, city advisors, and project teams, you will help align public and private resources to scale climate mitigation initiatives across sectors such as energy, mobility, buildings, waste, and water. The position combines strategic thinking with hands-on execution, offering direct impact on urban climate outcomes while collaborating in a diverse, multi-country environment. This is ideal for professionals who are both practical and innovative, capable of navigating complex public-private finance systems, and passionate about delivering measurable climate results.
Accountabilities:

Develop and structure climate mitigation projects in cities, defining business models, identifying funding sources, and increasing investment readiness.

Provide hands-on support in financial modeling, risk assessment, and project preparation to attract investors and accelerate project implementation.

Design and deploy blended finance instruments that combine public, private, and philanthropic capital to de-risk urban mitigation investments.

Engage directly with investors, banks, development finance institutions, and technical assistance providers to match project pipelines with appropriate funding.

Integrate adaptation and resilience considerations into mitigation projects where relevant, ensuring a holistic approach to urban climate planning.

Capture lessons from project transactions and financing processes, translating them into practical guidance, tools, and capacity-building materials for cities.

Collaborate closely with City Finance Specialists, project advisors, and consortium partners to ensure alignment and knowledge exchange across the region.
Requirements:

At least 7 years of practical experience in project finance, climate mitigation finance, infrastructure finance, or blended finance, ideally within the EU.

Demonstrated experience structuring, financing, or advising on urban climate mitigation projects.

Experience engaging with cities, regions, or public project owners, and working with financial institutions and investors.

Knowledge or experience with climate adaptation and resilience finance is a strong asset.

Understanding of local and regional governance, public finance processes, and EU funding frameworks is desirable.

Fluent in English; proficiency in at least one additional European language is preferred.

Strong Excel and analytical skills, with competence in collaborative IT tools such as Office365, Teams, Miro, Notion, and Zoom.
