The Direct Support Professional (DSP) at CareMax Senior Solutions provides compassionate, non-medical in-home support to adults with developmental disabilities, including individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and related conditions. Support is delivered within the comfort and familiarity of each person’s own home, where routines, independence, and personal choice are respected. Providing care in a home setting allows DSPs to build meaningful relationships, offer consistent one-on-one support, and help people feel safe, empowered, and valued in their daily lives. This role directly supports CareMax’s mission to promote independence, dignity, and overall well-being, while fostering trust and long-term relationships with people and their families.


All services provided are non-medical in nature and focus on assistance with daily living, companionship, safety, and supportive supervision in accordance with CareMax Senior Solutions’ policies and applicable licensing regulations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide respectful, person-centered support and supervision
  • Assist people with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, and mobility
  • Support daily routines in ways that encourage independence and choice
  • Assist with medication reminders or assistance as permitted by non-medical guidelines
  • Prepare meals and assist with light cooking and housekeeping
  • Implement individualized support plans and behavioral strategies as directed by supervisors
  • Document daily activities, progress notes, and observations accurately and timely
  • Prepare and submit incident and behavioral reports when required
  • Communicate observations, concerns, or changes promptly to supervisors
  • Support people in home and community settings, as appropriate
  • Assist with de-escalation and safety techniques using approved training methods
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and care guidelines
  • Attend and complete all required initial and ongoing training
  • Meet attendance, punctuality, and professionalism standards

Physical & Functional Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, sit, and move for extended periods
  • Ability to respond calmly and effectively during safety-related situations
  • Ability to assist people during emotional or behavioral escalations as trained
  • Previous experience in a healthcare or similar-industry such as a licensed community care facility setting is a plus
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Compassionate and patient demeanor
  • Ability to follow directions and work independently

Requirements

  • Education: A high school diploma or GED is the standard minimum requirement.
  • Background Checks: Candidates must successfully pass a state (DOJ) and FBI fingerprint background clearance (Live Scan) prior to employment.
  • Health Screening: Must provide proof of a negative Tuberculosis (TB) test or medical clearance performed within the last 6 months to 1 year.
  • Driving & Mobility: A valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, and reliable transportation are required for transporting clients to community activities and appointments.

Certifications & Training:

  • CPR and First Aid: Current certification is required (must be maintained throughout employment).
  • State-Mandated Training (DSPT): Must complete the California 70-hour competency-based Direct Support Professional Training. Proof of Year 1 completion is required within 12 months of hire, and Year 2 within 24 months (or successful passing of the state Challenge Tests).
