About Our Common Home

Our Common Home is a fast-growing global network that brings those left out of the existing climate movement into the conversation about how to protect their environment, on their own terms. Our network partners, based in critical nations around the world, work to take climate and environment out of the polarization dynamics that increasingly undermine the possibility of achieving the broad support needed for effective environmental action. We are driven by respect for ordinary people whose values or way of life leave them excluded from the current climate and environment debate. We seek to build trust with these audiences, and we do this by partnering with the institutions they trust. Together with these partners, we run campaigns that build new solutions and approaches to climate change and environmental issues that are more rooted in the lives, values and priorities of ordinary people. By doing so, we create the political space required for lasting action.

Position Summary

We are looking for someone with a curious mind, an eye for good stories, and an outstanding ability to translate complex, intricate stories into clear and compelling narratives for different audiences. This person is able to balance an appreciation for hard data with a passion for nuanced human-centric stories; someone who can quickly build rapport with people to surface the stories worth telling beyond the obvious, but also thrives in doing the more introspective part of the job.

This role will play a key part in crafting compelling grant proposals, reports, donor briefs, and cultivation materials that clearly communicate our mission, programs, and impact to philanthropic partners and other external stakeholders. The Grant Writer will work closely with program, communications, MEL, and finance colleagues to gather and synthesize relevant information, ensuring all external-facing content is accurate, timely, and aligned with organizational priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Proposal Development & Writing

  • Draft, edit, and finalize high-quality grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and concept notes tailored to funder interests and requirements.
  • Coordinate input from relevant internal stakeholders to ensure content reflects programmatic accuracy, strategic alignment, and donor expectations.
  • Create and maintain a library of core narrative elements, project descriptions, and boilerplate text to streamline proposal development.
  • Collaborate closely with global program teams to surface compelling strategies, outcomes, and local stories, weaving them into cohesive narratives that clearly communicate our impact and value to funders.

Donor Communications

  • Draft donor reports, briefings, and stewardship materials that convey impact, learning, and alignment with donor strategies.
  • Support the development of cultivation materials such as one-pagers, program overviews, and pitch decks.
  • Ensure consistent tone, formatting, and quality across all written fundraising outputs.

Internal Collaboration & Project Coordination

  • Work cross-functionally with program teams, MEL, finance, and leadership to surface and gather relevant data, stories, and updates for proposals and reports.
  • Track proposal timelines, deliverables, and deadlines to ensure timely submission of materials.
  • Support continuous improvement of internal processes related to fundraising content creation and knowledge management.

Time & Workflow Management

  • Prioritize multiple deadlines across proposals, reports, and other written deliverables, ensuring high-quality outputs often under tight timeframes.
  • Maintain organized workflows to manage competing demands, coordinating with internal stakeholders to align on timelines and expectations.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience writing grants and donor communications for nonprofit organizations or related sectors; experience in different sectors is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to write persuasively for diverse philanthropic audiences.
  • Strong research and synthesis skills with a keen eye for detail and clarity.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines.
  • Comfortable working across time zones and coordinating input from remote teams.
  • Fluent in English; additional languages a plus.
