The Social Media Editor contributes to Areya Media’s mission by developing and executing compelling daily content in ways that showcase our brand personality and grow our audiences online.
The Social Media Editor (SME) is responsible for managing Areya's social accounts across OkayAfrica. The SME should have a strong grasp of the social landscape, its various platforms and audiences, and constantly evolving trends.
- Edit and assemble raw footage into elevated, polished, engaging video content primarily for social media platforms (e.g., TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, Facebook, X).
- Cut extractions from long form videos to be published across platforms
- Incorporate color grading, motion graphics, text overlays, sound effects, and music to enhance video quality and impact.
- Optimize video content for various social media platforms, including aspect ratios, file sizes, and character limits.
- Stay up-to-date with current social media trends, video editing techniques, and platform best practices.
- Collaborate closely with social media managers, content creators, and marketing teams to ensure content strategy alignment.
- Manage and organize video assets, ensuring efficient workflow and archiving.
- Provide creative input and recommendations for video content strategy and execution.
The Social Media Video Editor should be an expert in brand culture, social trends, popular culture in general and Black culture specifically. They should have the following skills: education and experience.
- 4+ years of experience building social-first content for brands, either agency or brand-side, with a portfolio of successful work that demonstrates your ability to create content that attracts audiences online.
- Solid understanding of social media copywriting and video editing principles and best practices, using mobile editing tools such as CapCut, TikTok Studio.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to manage a project from greenlight to execution.
- An excellent collaborator who can build trust and relationships within our organization.
- Ability to apply performance data and insights to optimize content to achieve KPIs.
- Experience with covering breaking news and delivering clear, concise copy on deadline.
