Description

The Staff Accountant plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting the monthly close process, and ensuring strong fiscal controls as the company continues to expand. This role partners closely with the Finance, People Operations, and Laboratory Operations teams to ensure accuracy and compliance across all financial activities. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and thrives in a dynamic environment where precision and accountability are essential. 


Core Accounting Duties 

  • Prepare and record journal entries, accruals, and adjustments in accordance with GAAP. 
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts, including cash, accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets, and payroll. 
  • Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting. 
  • Assist in the preparation of consolidated financial statements across multiple entities and locations. 
  • Maintain detailed supporting schedules for key balance sheet accounts. 

Operational & Cross-Functional Support 

  • Collaborate with People Operations to ensure payroll journal entries, benefit costs, and accruals (via Paylocity) are properly recorded and reconciled. 
  • Support procurement and cost allocation processes in coordination with Operations and Laboratory teams. 
  • Review and verify vendor invoices, employee expense reimbursements, and purchasing card transactions for accuracy and coding. 
  • Assist with revenue recognition and project tracking in NetSuite for client projects and laboratory services. 

Audit & Compliance 

  • Support annual financial audits and tax filings by preparing reconciliations and audit schedules. 
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and documentation standards. 
  • Assist in acquisition integrations, including data migration, balance sheet roll-forward, and chart of account alignment. 

Process Improvement & Systems 

  • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting workflows and implement automation tools. 
  • Support system integrations and enhancements across NetSuite, Paylocity, and other business platforms. 
Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.


Experience/Qualifications:

  • 2-4 years of progressive accounting experience (public accounting or multi-entity corporate environment preferred).
  • Experience with NetSuite or comparable ERP system required; Paylocity experience preferred.
  • Understanding of GAAP and accounting best practices in a growth-stage environment preferred.
  • Exposure to M&A integration and private-equity reporting structure a plus.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliations).
  • Exceptional accuracy, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to independently identify errors and process issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced, scaling environment with multiple priorities.


Work environment:

  • This is a fully remote position that requires a dedicated home office setup conducive to virtual collaboration.
  • This role involves frequent virtual communication via email, messaging, and video conferencing tools. 
  • May require extended hours during month-end, quarter-end, or audit cycles.


Travel requirements:

  • Occasional travel to laboratory locations may be required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
