The Law Office of Pietro Canestrelli, a Tax Controversy Boutique, APC, is hiring a remote Tax Associate Attorney with 2-4 years of tax planning, tax controversy, or tax resolution experience. This role is limited to candidates residing in Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Idaho, or Texas. Compensation includes a $100,000 - $115,000 base salary, commensurate with experience, demonstrated tax capability, and geographic market considerations.


Total compensation opportunity is $115,000 - $140,000+ through performance-based bonus eligibility and origination opportunities. The Tax Associate Attorney will assist clients with tax planning, tax controversy, and tax resolution matters involving the IRS and state taxing authorities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Representing or assisting in the representation of clients before the IRS and/or state taxing authorities
  • Supporting tax planning strategies for business owners and individuals
  • Handling tax controversy and tax resolution matters with professionalism, urgency, and sound judgment
  • Conducting legal and tax research
  • Reviewing client documents, financial information, tax notices, transcripts, and tax-related records
  • Drafting correspondence, memoranda, legal arguments, and client-facing communications
  • Communicating with clients clearly, calmly, and professionally
  • Helping clients understand their options, obligations, risks, and next steps
  • Managing assigned matters with ownership, organization, and accountability
  • Collaborating with attorneys, leadership, and support staff in a remote team environment
  • Meeting reasonable productivity expectations, including a target of 6 billable hours per day within a standard 8-hour workday

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 2-4 years of experience in tax planning, tax controversy, tax resolution, or a closely related tax practice area
  • Experience working with the IRS and/or state taxing authorities
  • Strong technical skills in tax strategy, tax compliance, tax defense, and client advocacy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage deadlines, client expectations, and case priorities
  • Sound judgment, professionalism, and attention to detail
  • Active license in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
  • Current residence in Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Idaho, or Texas
