Job Description:

mpathic is looking for a full-time VP of Finance and People to join our team. This role will report to the CEO.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our team. The VP of Finance and People will serve as a financial advisor to the CEO and serve on the executive team for strategic planning purposes. The VP of Finance and People also oversee human resources planning, compliance, payroll, performance management, and culture. The role is both highly strategic and operational and requires long-range thinking and immediate execution. The key remit for this role is to directly drive Series B readiness.

VP of Finance and People’s responsibilities include financial planning & analysis, overseeing accounting, internal controls, and tax, investor relations, payroll, treasury, and managing people and business operations. Ultimately, you are responsible for processing the financial activities of an organization to maximize a company’s profits and plan for its growth and for the careful management of our high-performing team. With a hands-on approach to all aspects of an organization’s finances, a VP of Finance must ensure a company complies with tax laws and regulations. This role starts as an executive team member managing several contractors but is expected to scale into a people manager position, hiring and developing a best-in-class Finance and Ops organization over time.

What you'll be doing:

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Own budgeting, forecasting, and scenario planning across the business.
  • Define and track key SaaS metrics (ARR, NRR, CAC payback, burn multiple, etc.).
  • Provide actionable insights to guide GTM investments, hiring, and product strategy.
  • Update board-level reporting and prepare board materials; respond and manage investor reporting requests.

Accounting, Controls & Compliance

  • Oversee core accounting, tax, and audit readiness.
  • Ensure GAAP compliance and scalable processes for revenue recognition.
  • Manage fractional controller and fractional bookkeeper
  • Improve and implement financial systems, processes and controls across the organization

Business Operations & Cross-Functional Partnering

  • Partner with Sales on quota-setting, comp plans, and pipeline forecasting.
  • Work with Product/Engineering to align spend with roadmap priorities.
  • Serve as the go-to finance thought partner for business leaders

Strategic Finance

  • Lead Series B readiness: financial model, data room, board prep, and investor narrative.
  • Drive capital allocation decisions and carefully manage the treasury strategy

People Strategy

  • Own and drive headcount planning, compensation strategy, and equity strategy.

HR Processes

  • Lead annual people processes to ensure strong culture, high performance, and compliance.
  • Manage payroll, onboarding and offboarding of team members.

Hiring and Recruiting

  • Serve as HRBP to department leaders
  • Work with recruiters to fill needed headcount

What We’re Looking for:

  • Comfort with (dare we say, an appreciation for) ambiguity. You know when it’s time to be in the weeds or at a higher level. You can flex between pushing for accuracy vs. precision.
  • You have a bias for action and take ownership. Not knowing the answer or how to do something gives you a thrill. You see problems to solve before anyone else does, and you’ve already taken steps towards building a solution.
  • Can easily flex between strategic finance leadership and tactical execution (closing the books, building dashboards, etc.).
  • Several years of strategy or finance experience in a startup-like environment (e.g., an early stage start up, management consulting, investment banking, proximity to a corporate c-suite)
  • Comfort with debating your peers, identifying conflicts, and taking the initiative to gain alignment
  • Demonstrated ability to build teams, systems, and scalable processes.
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills. You can speak confidently to the boardroom as well as to a non-finance team member.
  • Strong SaaS business acumen.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience with Quickbooks Online, Carta, and other relevant startup FinOps platforms
  • Comfort working remotely and using remote communications and project management tools like Sharepoint, Slack, and Trello for collaboration

Preferred:

  • 5-7 years experience in a fast-paced environment
  • MBA is a plus
  • Familiarity with various business models such as SaaS
  • Past experience in finance and business operations for Series A to Series C
