The Bonadio Group is seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant with specialized expertise in State and Local Tax (SALT).  In this client-facing role, you will manage multi-jurisdictional tax engagements, provide proactive sales tax planning, conduct technical research, and support audits for a variety of business clients. You will work closely with managers and partners to deliver high-quality service and innovative tax solutions that meet our clients’ unique needs.

Responsibilities

Client Engagement & Compliance

  • Prepare and review state and local income/franchise tax returns, sales/use tax filings, property tax returns, and other local compliance filings for business clients across multiple industries.
  • Assist clients with registration, filing, and compliance requirements in multiple states and jurisdictions.
  • Manage engagement timelines, budgets, and deliverables to ensure client satisfaction.

Research & Advisory Services

  • Conduct in-depth research on complex SALT sales tax issues, including nexus studies, apportionment analysis, voluntary disclosures, credits, and incentives.
  • Advise clients on tax-efficient strategies to minimize SALT sales tax exposure and optimize savings opportunities.
  • Monitor legislative changes and communicate relevant updates to clients and internal teams.

Audit Representation

  • Represent clients in state and local sales tax audits, including preparing responses to information requests, gathering documentation, and negotiating with taxing authorities.
  • Assist clients with audit defense strategies and resolution of disputes.

Firm Collaboration & Development

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams within the firm to identify and pursue new client service opportunities.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to staff accountants and interns.
  • Participate in business development activities, such as proposal preparation and networking events, to help grow the SALT practice.
     

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum bachelors degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • CPA license or working toward completion of CPA
  • A minimum of three years of sales tax experience
  • Proven experience with multi-state sales tax compliance, planning, and consulting
  • Familiarity with tax research tools (e.g., CCH, Bloomberg BNA, RIA Checkpoint).Tax compliance software, excel, MS suite
  • Strong technical expertise in nexus, apportionment, and sales tax compliance rules.
     

Hours Of Operation:

  • Our office hours are from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday
  • Our summer hours are from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Friday  
  • We pride ourselves on our flexibility; however, the ability to work additional hours will be needed at peak times
