The Trust and Estate Tax Specialist will be responsible for preparing and reviewing trust, estate, and gift tax returns, as well as assisting with trust and estate administration. This role requires a deep understanding of tax laws related to trusts and estates, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a remote or hybrid environment. Additional experience in other areas of tax preparation is a plus.
Key Responsibilities
· Prepare and review complex trust and gift tax returns (e.g., Forms 1041 and 709) in compliance with federal and state tax regulations.
· Assist in the administration of trusts and estates, including calculating distributions, coordinating with fiduciaries and attorneys, and ensuring compliance with legal and tax requirements.
· Research and interpret tax laws, regulations, and rulings related to trusts, estates, and gifts to ensure accurate and timely compliance.
· Collaborate with clients, attorneys, and financial advisors to gather necessary information and provide tax planning advice.
· Review and analyze financial records, estate plans, and trust documents to ensure accuracy and alignment with client objectives.
· Assist with tax planning strategies to minimize tax liabilities for trusts, estates, and beneficiaries.
· Support the preparation of individual, corporate, or partnership tax returns as needed (preferred but not required).
· Maintain accurate and organized client records and documentation in accordance with firm policies.
· Stay current on changes in tax laws, regulations, and industry best practices through continuing education and professional development.
· Communicate effectively with clients and team members to provide updates, address questions, and resolve issues promptly.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA, Paralegal certificate or advanced degree preferred).
· Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in trust and estate tax preparation and administration.
· Strong knowledge of federal and state tax laws related to trusts, estates, and gift taxes.
· Additional experience in individual, corporate, or partnership tax preparation is a plus.
· Proficiency with tax preparation software (e.g., CCH Axcess, UltraTax, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite.
· Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
· Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
· Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with clients and team members.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote or hybrid setting.
· CPA, Enrolled Agent (EA), or other relevant certifications are highly desirable.
Preferred Skills
· Experience with estate planning and wealth transfer strategies.
· Familiarity with fiduciary accounting and trust administration software.
· Knowledge of QuickBooks or other accounting software.
· Ability to adapt to new technologies and remote collaboration tools (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or similar).
